Shoppers Stop Funding Rounds

DateStageInvestorsRaisedValuationRev. MultipleDeal Summary
Sep-17Undisclosed stageAmazon$28M$385MShoppers Stop Limited, a K Raheja Corp Group-owned Indian retail chain selling branded apparel, accessories, beauty care, home décor, and furniture, received a 5% equity stake investment from Amazon.com NV Investment Holdings LLC in September 2017. Amazon invested Rs 179.25 crore (approximately $27.6–28 million USD) for 4,395,925 equity shares at Rs 407.78 per share, valuing the entire company at Rs 3,600 crore. The investment was Amazon's first in a publicly traded Indian company and supported Amazon's $5 billion commitment to expanding its presence in India's e-commerce market. As part of the deal, Amazon established experience centers in Shoppers Stop stores where customers could try Amazon products, and Shoppers Stop received an exclusive flagship store on Amazon India's platform to sell its catalog of approximately 400 brands including cosmetics, clothing, and electronics. Shoppers Stop intended to use the proceeds to open 20 new stores over four years, expanding from 80 to 100 locations, and to accelerate its online revenue strategy. However, in 2019 Shoppers Stop delisted from Amazon due to India's foreign investment policy restricting marketplaces from controlling inventory. Amazon subsequently sold its entire 4% remaining stake (shares had been diluted following additional capital raises by Shoppers Stop) in December 2024 for Rs 275.9 crore, concluding its seven-year involvement with the retailer.
