Asian Paints Funding Rounds

DateStageRaised FromRaisedValuationRev. MultipleDeal Summary
Jun-25Secondary - publicICICI Prudential Asset Management; SBI Mutual Fund$1B$63BAsian Paints is India's leading paint manufacturer, holding a 44% market share in decorative paints, with an annual domestic decorative paint capacity of 1.85 million kilolitres and the country's largest distribution network of 74,129 dealers. The company operates in over 60 countries and ranks as the second largest in Asia and eighth globally. In FY25, its decorative segment, which constitutes 87% of revenue, declined 5% year-over-year with volume growth of just 2.5%, the slowest in over 20 years, amid weak demand, downtrading, competition, and muted consumer sentiment. Q4 FY25 net profit fell 45% to ₹700.83 crore, with revenue from operations down 4.25% to ₹8,358.91 crore. On June 13, 2025, SBI Mutual Fund acquired a 3.6% stake in Asian Paints from Reliance Industries in a block deal valued at ₹7,704 crore (approximately $900 million) at ₹2,201 per share, involving 3.5 crore shares. This transaction, one of India's largest bilateral block deals, allowed Reliance to realize nearly 23x returns on its 17-year investment originally made for ₹500 crore in 2008, while retaining 87 lakh shares. Prior to the deal, SBI Mutual Fund held 1.51% and ICICI Prudential 1.24%; post-deal, domestic institutions control over 5.6% of equity, with LIC at 8.29%. The deal signals institutional confidence in Asian Paints' long-term prospects despite short-term challenges like rising input costs from crude oil spikes, revenue stagnation, and market share erosion from 59% to 52% in FY25 due to competitors like Aditya Birla Opus. Asian Paints' share price closed at ₹2,225 on NSE post-deal, having declined 17% over the prior three years.
