Ethiopian Securities Exchange is Ethiopia’s organized securities-exchange operator and a public-private share company headquartered in Addis Ababa. It was formally established in October 2023 and licensed by the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority under the Capital Market Proclamation. ESX operates trading and market infrastructure for equities, fixed-income securities and money-market instruments and also functions as a self-regulatory organization. Issuers use the exchange to access capital, while banks, brokers, institutional investors and other market participants use its listing, trading and market-information services. Revenue is expected to arise from listing, trading, membership, data and related exchange fees. EIH and state-owned enterprises formed the initial public-sector ownership block before private institutions subscribed for 75% of the company. ESX began operating in January 2025 and remains Ethiopia’s central organized capital-market venue.
