Barrick Mining Overview

About Barrick Mining

Based in Toronto, Barrick is one of the world's largest gold miners. In 2025, the firm sold about 3.3 million attributable ounces of gold and about 220,000 metric tons of copper. At end-2025, Barrick had about two decades of gold reserves along with significant copper reserves. After buying Randgold in 2019 and combining its Nevada mines in a joint venture with competitor Newmont later that year, it operates mines in the Americas, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. The company also has growing copper exposure, driven by the expansion of its Lumwana mine in Zambia and the development of its Reko Diq copper and gold project in Pakistan. It intends to undertake an IPO of its joint venture stakes in Nevada Gold Mines and Pueblo Viejo along with its Fourmile deposit later in 2026.

Barrick Mining Funding Rounds

DateStageRaised FromRaisedValuationRev. MultipleDeal Summary
Nov-25Secondary - publicElliott Investment Management$716M—Barrick Mining Corporation is a major Canadian gold producer with operations spanning North America, Africa, and Asia. On November 18, 2025, Elliott Investment Management acquired a significant stake estimated at least $700 million USD, positioning it among the company's top ten shareholders and driving pressure for corporate restructuring. The activist investor targets splitting stable North American assets, including the Nevada Gold Mines and Fourmile project, from higher-risk African and Asian operations to unlock shareholder value. The stake acquisition coincides with Barrick's operational challenges, including loss of control over the Loulo-Gounkoto mine in Mali due to a military junta seizure, resulting in a $1 billion write-off and detention of employees. Rising costs at North American assets and geopolitical risks have contributed to underperformance, with shares up 117% over the past year versus peers' 130% average gain. Barrick reported Q2 2025 revenue of $3.68 billion USD despite lower volumes. Prior to Elliott's involvement, Barrick explored strategic options like separating into North American and international entities or selling the Africa portfolio and Reko Diq project in Pakistan. The company's Nevada operations emphasize Tier-1 assets with reduced geopolitical risk, while international holdings face political uncertainties.
