About Yankee Global Enterprises

Yankee Global Enterprises is a New York-based holding company, formerly YankeeNets, that owns the New York Yankees baseball team and is controlled by the family of the late George Steinbrenner. It was formed in 1999 by merging the business operations of the Yankees and the NBA's New Jersey Nets to strengthen their hand in television and arena negotiations, and in 2002 the partners launched the YES Network. After the ownership groups split in 2003 the Nets were sold, the company took its current name in 2004, and Hal Steinbrenner became chairman in 2007. The Yankees, winners of a record 27 World Series, play at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx and were valued by Forbes at $8.2 billion in 2025. The group is the largest shareholder of YES Network, with 26% as of April 2026, after reacquiring Fox's stake in 2019 alongside Sinclair, Amazon and Blackstone, and in August 2022 it bought 10% of AC Milan alongside RedBird Capital Partners. It also holds 10% of New York City FC and co-owns stadium hospitality firm Legends with the Dallas Cowboys. Minority investors include Lester Crown, Jerry Speyer and Marvin Goldklang.

The Steinbrenner family keeps a little over 60% and full control, with Hal Steinbrenner remaining managing general partner, and Apollo Sports Capital chief executive Al Tylis joins an expanded YGE board. YES Network
Description
YES Network is an American regional sports network, the Yankees Entertainment and Sports Network, serving New York City and its metropolitan area from offices in the MetLife Building in Midtown Manhattan and studios in Stamford, Connecticut. It grew out of YankeeNets, the 1999 holding company that merged the business operations of the New York Yankees and the New Jersey Nets to win better broadcast deals, and it launched on 19 March 2002. Its programming centres on Yankees and Brooklyn Nets games, pre- and post-game shows and original documentary and discussion programmes, and it also produces the Yankees broadcasts shown on Amazon Prime Video. The channel is carried by cable, satellite and IPTV providers in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and parts of Pennsylvania, earning subscriber fees from distributors and advertising revenue. News Corporation bought 49% in 2012 and 21st Century Fox raised its holding to 80% in 2014; after Disney acquired Fox, the Yankees bought the stake back in a roughly $3.5 billion deal that closed in August 2019. As of April 2026 it is owned by Yankee Global Enterprises (26%), Main Street Sports Group (20%), Amazon (15%) and Blackstone, RedBird Capital and Mubadala (13% each).
