New York Giants Overview

About New York Giants

New York Giants is a National Football League franchise founded in 1925 by Tim Mara, one of the oldest clubs in the league. The team plays its home games at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, which it shares with the New York Jets. The Mara family has owned the club since its founding, and since 1991 control has been shared equally with the Tisch family, which bought half of the team that year. The Giants have won eight league championships, including four Super Bowls. Like other NFL clubs, the team earns most of its revenue from the league's shared national media and licensing income, supplemented by ticket and premium seating sales, sponsorship and merchandise. In 2025 the owners sold a 10% limited partnership stake to Julia Koch and her family.

Oct 2025SecondaryJulia Koch$10BNFL owners approved on 22 October 2025 the purchase of a 10% limited partnership stake in the New York Giants by Julia Koch and her family, in a deal that valued the team at about $10.3 billion, a record for any sports franchise at the time. The Mara and Tisch families, which have shared control of the Giants equally since 1991, each sold part of their holdings, and both families remain the controlling owners. The sale was approved unanimously at the league's fall meeting in New York, together with minority sales by the New England Patriots and the San Francisco 49ers. Moelis & Company advised the Giants and Sullivan & Cromwell acted as legal counsel, while CAA Evolution and Paul, Weiss advised Koch. Julia Koch is the widow of industrialist David Koch, and she and her children hold a large stake in Koch Industries; the family had earlier invested in the Brooklyn Nets parent company. The Giants were founded in 1925, have won eight league championships including four Super Bowls, and play at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Feb 1991SecondaryPreston Robert Tisch-Tim Mara agreed on 20 February 1991 to sell his 50% share of the New York Giants to Preston Robert Tisch, the NFL commissioner's office announced, weeks after the Giants won Super Bowl XXV. The team had been owned by the Mara family since its founding in 1925, but ownership was split between Wellington Mara and the family of his late brother Jack, whose son Tim had long been at odds with his uncle over how to run the club. Terms of the sale were not released, and the transaction required approval by two-thirds of the league's 28 owners. Tisch, who had served as Postmaster General from 1986 to 1988, was president and co-chief executive of Loews Corporation, and said he would hold his interest as an individual. The purchase created the equal Mara-Tisch partnership that still controls the Giants. The New York Giants are one of the NFL's oldest franchises and had won two Super Bowls by the time of the sale.
