DateStageInvestorsValuationDeal Summary
Oct 2015Undisclosed stageTDR Capital (lead)$2BTDR Capital acquired a minority stake in the Blackburn-based forecourt retailer Euro Garages in October 2015 in a transaction that valued the business at about GBP 1.3 billion. Founders Zuber and Mohsin Issa remained majority shareholders and continued to lead the company as chief executive and managing director respectively, with the transaction expected to close in December 2015 subject to regulatory clearance. TDR had been building exposure to downstream fuel and convenience retail and said it saw an opportunity to create a scaled, diversified forecourt platform in a structurally changing market by developing branded convenience and food-to-go propositions. Euro Garages at the time operated more than 340 petrol filling stations in the United Kingdom, having grown from a single site acquired in 2001 through purchases of estates from Esso and Shell. In October 2016 TDR's separately owned European Forecourt Retail group was merged with Euro Garages to create Intervias Group, subsequently renamed EG Group.
