DateStageRaised FromRaisedValuationRev. MultipleDeal Summary
Aug-18Undisclosed stageBlackstone$250M$750MTaskUs is a Santa Monica-based provider of customer service, content moderation, and business process outsourcing (BPO) services, primarily for high-growth tech companies including Tinder, MailChimp, and MoviePass. The company operates a cloud-based platform to help clients scale customer service and back-office support, with a focus on tech-enabled services in ridesharing, social media, e-commerce, and related sectors. Founded in 2008 by Bryce Maddock and Jaspar Weir, TaskUs had previously raised a $15 million Series A from Navegar Partners in 2015 and $14 million in debt financing. In August 2018, funds managed by Blackstone Group invested $250 million in TaskUs, valuing the company at $500 million pre-money (post-money north of $750 million per some reports). Blackstone, led by Senior Managing Director Amit Dixit, partnered with the existing management team, which retained leadership, while Navegar sold its stake. The deal, announced around August 8-9, 2018, and expected to close in Q4 2018, provided capital for global expansion into Europe, India, Latin America, and investments in consulting, technology, and innovation to enhance customer experience. Financial traction at the time included projected 2018 revenue of $225-250 million, up from $117 million in 2017 and $80 million in 2016, reflecting rapid growth in the outsourcing sector. Blackstone highlighted TaskUs's leadership position with marquee customers and unique culture. This investment preceded TaskUs's 2021 IPO and a later 2025 take-private by Blackstone-related entities at $1.6 billion.
Jun-15Series ANavegar$15M-TaskUs, a Santa Monica-based customer support outsourcing company for rapidly growing startups, closed a $15 million private equity funding round from Navegar on June 8, 2015. The company, founded by Bryce Maddock and Jaspar Weir, operates centers in the Philippines and serves venture-backed internet companies, with more than 10 customers achieving billion-dollar valuations. At the time, TaskUs reported a $35 million revenue run rate, was profitable, and had doubled revenue and headcount in the prior five months, planning to triple both by the end of 2016. The funding enabled investments in people, new office geographies, and technology integration to enhance service offerings. CEO Bryce Maddock highlighted Navegar's sector expertise from call center outsourcing founders. TaskUs positioned itself as the leading provider for mobile-first generation needs, reducing customer time to profitability and boosting valuations.
