GDS Holdings Funding Rounds

DateStageRaised FromRaisedValuationRev. MultipleDeal Summary
Jan-26Series CCoatue; Indonesia Investment authority$2B$10BDayOne Data Centres is the overseas arm of Shanghai-based GDS Holdings, operating as a Singapore-based hyperscale data center platform. In January 2026, DayOne closed a Series C funding round led by Coatue Management at a $10 billion post-money valuation, raising $2 billion in equity. This followed $1.9 billion raised in prior rounds in 2024 (Series A and B) from investors including SoftBank and Citadel boss Ken Griffin. The Indonesia Investment Authority participated as a current partner in the Series C round, deepening its partnership with DayOne beyond their existing joint venture in Indonesia. The Series C capital will advance DayOne's expansion across Europe (Finland hyperscale campuses in Lahti and Kouvola) and Asia-Pacific (SIJORI region including Singapore, Johor, Batam, plus Thailand, Japan, and Hong Kong), supporting development of AI-ready data center capacity.
Oct-24Series BCoatue; Kenneth Griffin; SoftBank Group; The Baupost Group$1B-GDS International (DigitalLand Holdings Limited), the international affiliate of GDS Holdings, raised $1 billion (upsized to $1.2 billion) in a Series B funding round on October 29, 2024, led by Coatue Management with participation from The Baupost Group, SoftBank Vision Fund, and Kenneth Griffin of Citadel. The company operates data centers in Asia-Pacific markets including Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Japan, with 480 MW of capacity in service and under construction, plus 590 MW for future development, targeting 1 GW total. The investment consists of newly issued Series B convertible preferred shares, sufficient alongside existing equity to fund up to 1 GW of data center capacity development. Post-closing, GDS Holdings will own approximately 37.6% of GDS International on an as-converted basis and will no longer consolidate it for accounting purposes. Valuation remains undisclosed, though the Series B subscription price implies GDS Holdings' equity interest at approximately $1.3 billion. This round reflects strong investor demand in the growing Asia-Pacific data center market driven by AI, cloud computing, and digital transformation, positioning GDS International against competitors like Equinix and Digital Realty.
Mar-24Series ABoyu Capital; Hillhouse Investment; Princeville Capital; Rava Partners; Tekne Capital$587M$1BGDS International (GDSI), the holding company for GDS Holdings' international data center operations established in 2022, secured $587 million in Series A convertible preferred shares from investors including Boyu Capital, Hillhouse Investment, Rava Partners, Princeville Capital, and Tekne Capital. The transaction, announced around March 26, 2024, provides dedicated financing for GDSI's standalone development, repaying inter-company loans and fully capitalizing its share capital at approximately $1 billion without needing further funding from parent GDS Holdings. Post-transaction, GDS will retain about 56.1% equity in GDSI, with investors holding 43.9%. The Series A implies a pre-money equity valuation of $750 million for GDSI, as confirmed across multiple reports. One source notes a post-money enterprise valuation of $2.3 billion considering forecast net debt. GDSI operates in key markets including Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia, with a portfolio of 330MW data center capacity in service and under construction, plus 340MW for future development. It has secured over 200MW in customer commitments and reservations, with more than 70MW already revenue-generating, including an 18.2MW facility in Hong Kong and the first phase of a 158.7MW campus in Johor, Malaysia. The funding supports completion of GDSI's current pipeline and potential expansion into new markets, building on rapid establishment of leading positions in Hong Kong and Singapore-Johor-Batam. GDS Holdings, a major Chinese data center developer listed on NASDAQ (GDS) and HKEX (9698), views this as a benchmark of value created in its international arm, mirroring successes in China. Advisors included Morgan Stanley Asia and White & Case.
