DateStageInvestorsRaisedDeal Summary
Oct 2025Series C-$220MTachyum, a semiconductor company developing the Prodigy universal processor for AI data centers, high-performance computing, and general-purpose workloads, announced a $220 million Series C funding round on October 14-15, 2025, from a European backer. The investment, expected to close within a month, brings total capital raised to over $300 million across multiple rounds, with funds allocated for Prodigy tape-out, R&D, and market expansion toward a potential 2027 IPO. The same investor placed a $500 million purchase order for Prodigy chips, which promise dramatic AI performance boosts and cost reductions by up to two orders of magnitude. Tachyum positions Prodigy to enable data centers exceeding human brain processing capacity at fractionally lower costs, targeting the AI supremacy race amid investments like Saudi Arabia's data centers and EU's €30 billion AI funding. The company participates in the EU's IPCEI program for semiconductors and AI. Prior rounds included Series B, Series A, grants, and loans from investors like IPM Group, European Commission, and Slovak Government. Tachyum aims to disrupt Nvidia-dominated markets with versatile, power-efficient chips for massive AI models.
Jul 2021Series BIPM Group (lead); Across Private Investments-Slovak-founded chip designer Tachyum closed a Series B funding round led by IPM Group in collaboration with Across Private Investments. The round tripled Tachyum's valuation, providing growth capital as the company continues developing its processor technology.
Jan 2021Undisclosed stageWCA Holding-WCA Holding became one of several private investors backing Tachyum, a Slovak chipmaker developing its Prodigy universal processor. The firm names Tachyum as its flagship portfolio holding. Deal terms were not disclosed.
Jul 2019Series AIPM Group (lead); Government of Slovakia$25MTachyum is a semiconductor startup developing the Prodigy universal processor, designed to outperform CPUs, GPUs, and TPUs in data center, AI, and HPC workloads while using 10x less power and offering 3x lower cost. The company, based in the US with operations linked to Slovakia, completed a Series A funding round of $25 million on July 9, 2019, led by IPM Group with participation from the Government of Slovakia. The funds were intended to support software development and progress toward tape-out and market launch planned for the second half of 2020. Prior to the Series A, Tachyum raised pre-Series A funding, bringing total early funding over $30 million, achieved after validating the Prodigy architecture through simulations. The round built on a seed VC in 2018 and a loan in early 2019, positioning Tachyum to target hyperscale data centers with a $25B TAM and 15% CAGR. Tachyum has since raised additional rounds, including Series B in 2021 and a $220 million Series C in 2025 from a European investor, plus a $500 million purchase order for Prodigy chips, totaling over $300 million invested.
Feb 2018SeedIPM Group (lead)-IPM Group made its first venture capital investment in the semiconductor company Tachyum, announced by both parties on 13 February 2018. The investment was made under IPM's IPM Growth strategy and the amount and the resulting stake were not disclosed. IPM had signed definitive agreements to conclude the investment several months earlier, announcing on 19 September 2017 that its investors had committed to back the company, and the February 2018 releases marked the public confirmation of the completed transaction. As part of the deal Adrian Vycital, a managing partner of IPM, joined Tachyum's board of directors. IPM said its investment thesis was partly that the European Union was losing competitiveness through lack of access to proprietary high-performance processing technology, and that the round would help drive future research and development, while chief executive Radoslav Danilak said IPM's investment would give the company a significant boost in bringing its cloud chip to life and that IPM's presence in Europe and Asia would help Tachyum reach enterprise and hyperscale markets. Tachyum was founded in 2016 by Danilak, who previously founded SandForce and Skyera, both later acquired, and who was formerly a chief architect at Nvidia, where he worked on the Tesla chip used in the Tianhe supercomputer. The company is developing a family of processors intended to cut data centre compute and storage hardware capital expenditure by around three times, total cost of ownership by around four times and hardware power consumption by ten to fifteen times, while reducing rack space by more than ninety percent. At the time of the transaction Tachyum operated from the United States with engineering activity in Slovakia, and it later raised a USD 25 million Series A round led by IPM Group in 2019 and received a capital infusion from the Slovak government.
