Feb 2025Undisclosed stageHaun Ventures (lead)$63M$675MRaise, founded in 2013 by George Bousis, is a gift card marketplace that operates as a leader in the global gift market. The company has modernized the gift card space by building a secondary marketplace for gift cards and has been generating profit for over a decade, though exact revenue figures were not disclosed by management. In February 2025, Raise announced a $63 million strategic funding round led by Haun Ventures, with participation from Paper Ventures, Selini Capital, GSR, Amber Group, Anagram, Blackpine, Borderless Capital, Karatage, Pharsalus Capital, Sonic Boom Ventures, the Web3 Foundation, and angels including Raj Gokal (Solana cofounder), Tekin Salimi, and Teddy Gorisse. The round consisted of a mix of primary and secondary share sales as well as token warrants. CEO George Bousis declined to disclose the exact post-money valuation but confirmed it was no less than the company's Series D valuation of $675 million. This round brings Raise's total funding to over $220 million, building on prior investments from Accel, PayPal, and New Enterprise Associates (NEA). Raise plans to deploy capital toward developing Smart Cards, its blockchain-powered gift card product, and expanding the Retail Alliance Foundation, a non-profit coalition focused on creating a more secure and interoperable gift card network. In connection with the funding, Raise appointed a new board including Marco Santori (former CLO at Kraken), George Ruan (former cofounder and CEO of Honey), Matt Maloney (founder and former CEO of GrubHub), and Bjorn Wagner (CEO of Parity Technologies). The company is positioning this expansion as a bet on blockchain technology to modernize a trillion-dollar gift card market that has remained largely unchanged for decades.
