Oct 2022Undisclosed stage65 Equity Partners (lead)$105MNEON, formerly Cityneon, is a Singapore-based global leader in immersive entertainment experiences, partnering with major IP owners like Disney, Marvel, 20th Century Studios, Hasbro, NBCUniversal, Lionsgate, Warner Bros., and governments for exhibitions featuring artifacts from Peru and Egypt. The company produces immersive shows based on franchises such as Avengers, Jurassic Park, and The Hunger Games, operating in over 60 cities worldwide. Originally listed on the Singapore Exchange in 2005, it was taken private in a S$318 million deal in February 2019 led by Johnson Ko and Executive Chairman Ron Tan. In October 2022, 65 Equity Partners, a Temasek-backed private equity firm, invested S$150 million (approximately SGD 150,000,000) in NEON as part of its Anchor Fund @ 65, marking a private equity round to support expansion of immersive experience offerings and technological capabilities. This followed a prior S$235 million raise in April 2021 from investors including EDBI, Pavilion Capital, Ron Tan, and SeaTown Holdings. 65 Equity Partners is partnering with NEON's management, led by Executive Chairman and Group CEO Ron Tan, to drive global growth, enhance corporate governance, and prepare for a potential future public listing on the Singapore Exchange. The investment aligns with secular trends in consumer spending shifting toward experiences, positioning NEON to leverage its IP portfolio and execution track record. As of early 2025, 65 Equity Partners' fund had deployed S$700 million across five companies including NEON, Carsome, Shopback, AvePoint, and Tuya, with aims to support Singapore-based firms in scaling regionally. In 2024, NEON was considering a new $200 million funding round to further expand, though details remained preliminary.
