Manhattan Beach Studios Campus Acquisition
Manhattan Beach Studios Campus was acquired by HPS Investment Partners for $650M on 19 August 2026.
Hackman Capital Partners acquired Manhattan Beach Studios and the studio-operating company MBS Services from The Carlyle Group in a $650 million transaction in 2019, with the real estate purchased in a joint venture with Square Mile Capital Management. The deal combined a 22-acre, roughly 587,000-square-foot production campus in Manhattan Beach with production services operations tied to the facility, and Hackman declined to break out how much of the consideration was allocated to the property versus the operating business. The acquisition expanded Hackman Capital’s studio portfolio and consolidated control of a major Los Angeles production asset used for film and television work, including the Avatar sequels. Public reporting describes the site as a 22-acre media campus built in 1999 and used as a full-service production facility. The transaction was framed as part of Hackman’s broader push into studio and production infrastructure, with the operating company providing lighting and other support services for entertainment productions. Manhattan Beach Studios, also known as MBS Media Campus, is located at 1600 Rosecrans Avenue in Manhattan Beach and comprises about 587,000 square feet of studio space. The campus and MBS Services had been owned by Carlyle before the sale, and the real estate component was structured through a joint venture with Square Mile Capital Management.
