Jiedaibao Overview

About Jiedaibao

Jiedaibao is a Beijing-based Chinese internet lending platform whose mobile app lets people borrow from and lend to friends and acquaintances. A borrower publishes a request with an amount, annualised rate and repayment date of their own choosing while the lender can remain anonymous, and the platform later built electronic IOU services, employee-benefit products and a loan-referral business on top of the app. It was launched on 22 June 2015 by Renrenxing Technology, a company in the JD Capital (Jiuding) group, and the app is now operated by Chengdu Jiebao. Its early growth was driven by a RMB 2 billion cash-for-referrals campaign, and by 2024 it reported more than 140 million users. Jiedaibao raised RMB 2 billion in a first round in August 2015 and RMB 2.5 billion in a Series B at a RMB 50 billion valuation in January 2016. In March 2025 China's CCTV 3·15 consumer-rights broadcast accused the platform of facilitating predatory lending through electronic IOUs, after which it set up a rectification team and restricted the IOU function.

DateStageRaisedValuationDeal Summary
Jan 2016Series B$380M$7.6BJiedaibao announced in January 2016 that it had completed a Series B round of RMB 2.5 billion at a valuation of RMB 50 billion, led by an unnamed large joint-stock commercial bank. The valuation exceeded the RMB 46 billion at which JD Finance had just completed its own Series A. The round followed an RMB 2 billion first round in August 2015 that had valued the platform at about RMB 20 billion, less than two months after the app's launch. Jiedaibao, operated by Beijing-based Renrenxing Technology within the JD Capital (Jiuding) group, runs an app for one-way anonymous lending between acquaintances: the borrower borrows under their real name while the lender stays anonymous, and the borrower sets the amount, annualised rate and repayment date, much like an electronic IOU. Its rapid growth had been fuelled by a heavily criticised cash-for-referrals campaign. The platform later came under regulatory pressure over its IOU business, and in March 2025 China's CCTV 3·15 consumer-rights broadcast accused it of facilitating predatory lending.
Aug 2015Series A$316M$3.4BJiedaibao announced on 12 August 2015 in Beijing that it had completed a first round of financing of RMB 2 billion, described at the time as a record first-round raise for a Chinese internet finance platform. Calculations based on a capital-increase notice from shareholder China Zhonghua Geotechnical Engineering (002542.SZ) put the platform's valuation above RMB 20 billion, and press reports cited a figure of about RMB 22 billion. Jiedaibao is an app launched on 22 June 2015 by Renrenxing Technology, a company controlled by the JD Capital (Jiuding) group, for lending between acquaintances. Borrowers publish a request with their own amount, interest rate and repayment date, and friends or contacts can fund it. The round came days after the platform launched a RMB 2 billion referral campaign that paid users cash for recruiting new users, which drew criticism. Jiedaibao raised a further RMB 2.5 billion in a Series B round at a RMB 50 billion valuation in January 2016.
