Tamar Petroleum Funding Rounds

DateStageRaised FromRaisedValuationRev. MultipleDeal Summary
Sep-25Secondary - publicAaron Frenkel$96M$945MTamar Petroleum is a publicly traded company (TASE: TMRP) that holds an 18.75% stake in Israel's Tamar offshore natural gas field, located 90 kilometers west of Haifa with estimated reserves of 291.5 BCM and production capacity of 10.3 BCM per year. On September 17, 2025, Israeli businessman Aaron Frenkel acquired an additional 9% stake in Tamar Petroleum from Menora Mivtachim Holdings for ILS 320 million at ILS 40 per share, increasing his holding to 16%. The transaction valued the company at a market value of NIS 3.5 billion. This purchase follows Frenkel's earlier sale in early 2025 of a 10% stake in the Tamar field to Azerbaijan's SOCAR for $1.25 billion (NIS 1.25 billion), completed in June 2025 after regulatory approvals. The SOCAR deal involved acquiring 48.3% of Frenkel's Union Energy (holding 14.5% of Tamar) and 17.9% of Tamar Petroleum. Subsequently, Frenkel bought more shares, including another 3.5% for NIS 126 million, granting SOCAR an option to purchase half. Frenkel's investments in Tamar total NIS 3.4 billion, primarily through bank financing, giving him effective control over about 31% of the Tamar field alongside partners Chevron (25%), Mubadala (11%), Isramco, and Dor Gas. The Tamar field, discovered in 2009 and producing since 2013, supplies natural gas to Israel and regional markets.
