Taaleem Holdings Funding Rounds

DateStageInvestorsRaisedValuationRev. MultipleDeal Summary
Nov-19Undisclosed stageStonePine ACE Partners; CI Capital Holding$73M$667MTaaleem Management Services is a leading higher education platform in Egypt, primarily controlling and operating Nahda University in Beni Suef (NUB), the largest private university in Upper Egypt with over 5,200 students and plans for a new faculty of medicine. Established in 2015, it is the tertiary education sector's only pure play firm, focusing on managing private universities. In September 2019, CI Capital Holding, alongside StonePine ACE Partners (a joint venture of StonePine Capital Partners and ACE & Company) and other co-investors, acquired a 60% interest in Taaleem for a total consideration of EGP 1.2 billion (approximately $73 million USD), through a newly established vehicle EGY EDU Invest BV controlled by CI Capital. CI Capital committed EGP 305 million from its balance sheet, with the remainder from co-investors including StonePine ACE Fund. The transaction, announced around April-November 2019 and completed in September 2019, valued the 60% stake at EGP 1.2 billion, implying an enterprise value of approximately EGP 20 billion based on the full company, with a fiscal year 2018/19 trailing EV/EBITDA multiple of 9.4x. This acquisition strengthened CI Capital and StonePine ACE Partners' holdings, following their strategy to target attractive assets in Egypt's higher education sector, which they viewed as offering excellent returns. Taaleem's CEO Mohamed El-Rashidi welcomed the new shareholders, expecting support for accelerated growth to solidify its position as one of Egypt's largest institutionally-backed education platforms. No specific revenue or ARR figures for Taaleem near the 2019 round date were stated in sources using terms like 'revenue' or 'ARR'. Later developments include StonePine ACE Partners exiting its 7% stake via an accelerated bookbuild advised by EFG Hermes, achieving a 4.8x MOIC in EGP and 1.8x in USD terms, highlighting sustained investor interest in Egypt's education sector and improving capital market liquidity.
