About GA Drilling
GA Drilling is a Bratislava-headquartered developer of plasma drilling technology through its PLASMABIT platform for oil and gas, geothermal, mining, and tunneling applications. The contactless torch drills hard rock formations at rates up to 12 meters per hour, reducing costs by 50 percent compared to mechanical methods. Deployed in field tests in Slovakia and the United States since 2015, it targets deep geothermal wells and hard rock mining. GA Drilling collaborates with Halliburton and the U.S. Department of Energy, operating a test facility in western Slovakia with ISO 9001 certification.

| Date | Stage | Investors | Raised | Deal Summary |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mar 2026 | Undisclosed stage | TomEnterprise Private (lead); Underground Ventures; Nabors Industries | $44M | - |
| Jul 2025 | Undisclosed stage | - | $83M | GA Drilling is a global technology company specializing in deep geothermal energy, developing NexTitan, the world's first downhole anchoring and drive system for deep, ultra-deep, and ultra-long-reach drilling to make geothermal economically viable at scale. With offices in the US, UK, Brazil, and Slovakia, it leverages oil & gas expertise for clean energy solutions. In July/October 2025, GA Drilling raised $44.1 million in a venture round (described variably as Venture, Series D - II), consisting of $24.7 million fresh capital and $19.4 million from converted SAFE notes, led by TomEnterprise (founded by former EQT CEO Thomas von Koch), with Underground Ventures and a major global drilling contractor as investor and strategic partner providing oil & gas commercial reach. The funds aim to accelerate commercial deployment of NexTitan, prove field performance across geographies, and generate real-world customer data to reduce drilling costs in 2026. This round ranks among the largest European funding rounds of 2025 in hardware and industrial tech, standing out amid AI/software focus. GA Drilling's prior funding includes a $15M Series C in April 2024 with Nabors Industries, Neulogy Ventures, Thomas Von Koch, Underground Ventures, and alfa8, contributing to total raised figures reported as $55.82M over 6 rounds or $144.52M over 9 rounds in different sources. The investment aligns with IEA projections of geothermal supplying up to 15% of global electricity by 2050 from less than 1% today, targeting drilling cost barriers. |
| Apr 2024 | Series A | Underground Ventures; Alfa8; Neulogy Ventures; Thomas von Koch; Nabors Industries | $15M | GA Drilling raised $15 million in a Series C funding round on April 18, 2024, from investors including Nabors Industries, Neulogy Ventures, Thomas von Koch, Underground Ventures, and alfa8. The company develops drilling technology focused on deep geothermal applications. This round follows prior funding, with the company having raised a total of $55.82 million over 6 rounds as of that date. |
| Apr 2022 | Series A | Extantia Capital (lead); Slovak Investment Holding; Neulogy Ventures; Lead Ventures; Planet A Ventures; Sumitomo | $12M | - |
| Mar 2022 | Strategic investment | Nabors Industries (lead) | $8M | GA Drilling develops ultra-deep geothermal drilling technology, including the PLASMABIT system, aimed at accessing super-hot rock reservoirs for clean energy production. On March 30, 2022, Nabors Industries made a USD $8 million strategic investment in GA Drilling to integrate its technology with Nabors' drilling operations and expand geothermal capabilities. This investment positioned GA Drilling within Nabors' geothermal ecosystem alongside other venture investments to reduce geothermal energy costs and support decarbonization goals. Nabors, a major drilling rig operator, views the partnership as key to scaling geothermal energy globally. |
| Jan 2021 | Series C | Extantia Capital (lead) | $4M | - |
| Mar 2019 | Series B | Lead Ventures (lead); InfraPartners Management; Ted Halstead | $5M | - |
| May 2017 | Undisclosed stage | IPM Group (lead) | - | IPM Group, the London and Bratislava based investment manager also known as InfraPartners Management, took a minority stake in the Slovak plasma drilling technology company GA Drilling in an investment announced on 2 May 2017. Neither the size of the stake nor the amount invested was disclosed by either party. The transaction was the first investment made under IPM Growth, the firm's growth equity initiative for Central and Eastern European technology companies, and IPM said the aim was to help GA Drilling establish itself further and develop its patented PLASMABIT technology for deployment across global markets. GA Drilling's co-founder and chief executive Igor Kocis said the investment would accelerate the company towards the next technology readiness level, allowing validation and further prototype demonstration of PLASMABIT in an oil and gas environment, and that IPM brought skills in equity and structured debt financing as well as access through its stakeholders to advanced materials expertise needed to launch the product. IPM described the company as consistent with IPM Growth's aim of supporting technology leaders in the Central European region with potential for global growth. GA Drilling was established in Slovakia in 2008 on the assumption that traditional industrial drilling techniques, largely unchanged for decades, could be substantially re-engineered using newer technology. Its PLASMABIT platform replaces mechanical drilling with a high-energy electrical plasma jet to carry out drilling and milling work in the oil and gas sector, and the company also targets geothermal energy, where it aims to drill deeper and more cheaply than existing methods and so make more geothermal resources economically viable. At the time of the investment GA Drilling operated a 4,000 square metre technology centre in Bratislava and had branches in the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates and the United States. The company subsequently raised further capital from other investors, including Lead Ventures, and signed a service agreement with MOL Group. |
