Jul 2020Series DBaidu Capital (lead); Russia-China Investment Fund$71MFineEx is a Shanghai-based logistics services provider founded in 2006, offering warehousing, product delivery, and return handling primarily for e-commerce sellers in sectors like cosmetics, personal care, food, shoes, clothes, and small home appliances. Customers include major brands such as Schwarzkopf, Perfect Diary, and Xtep, alongside over 1,500 consumer goods companies and small to medium-sized online merchants. The company operates around 220 warehouses as of mid-2020, with plans to expand to 500 within three years. In July 2020, FineEx closed a Series D funding round of RMB500 million (approximately USD 70.8-71 million), led by Baidu Capital—the growth equity arm of Baidu—and co-invested by the Russia-China Investment Fund, a private equity vehicle formed by Chinese and Russian governments. Investment bank China Renaissance advised on the transaction. This follows prior rounds including a 2013 strategic investment from Transcosmos (20% stake), a 2015 Series B of $31.7m from Transfar and Addor Capital, a 2016 Series B-plus led by Chenhui Venture Partners, and a May 2018 round of about $58m from multiple investors including Qianbao and SinoOcean Capital. Proceeds from the Series D are allocated to expanding FineEx's warehouse network, enhancing distribution mechanisms, and developing smart warehousing technology, as stated by founder and CEO Li Pingyi to 36Kr. The investment positions FineEx for growth in China's vast e-commerce and mobile commerce market.
