The funding aims to accelerate the rollout of its LTE-led business model across multiple African markets, building on its existing 4G license footprint covering 12 countries and a population of 222 million. Afrimax launched LTE services in Uganda in February 2015 in partnership with Vodafone under a non-equity strategic framework agreement, combining new 4G networks with existing 2G and 3G infrastructure. Mitsui & Co. invested approximately ¥6 billion (around $50 million USD at the time) in equity participation, highlighting Afrimax's position with one of the largest 4G license portfolios in the region. The company, launched in the Netherlands in 2010, plans to replicate the Uganda success and expand to dozens of sub-Saharan countries, addressing the lack of mobile infrastructure. Investors see strong growth opportunities in high-speed mobile broadband. Legal support was provided by White & Case. The round supports development of 4G wireless broadband networks to position Afrimax as a leading next-generation mobile network operator (MNO) in Africa.
