Mar-20Undisclosed stageT. J. Rodgers; York Capital Management$45M-Enovix Corporation develops next-generation 3D silicon lithium-ion batteries with high energy density over 900 Wh/L and cycle life exceeding 500 full-depth discharges, using a patented 3D cell architecture that enables a high-capacity silicon anode. The company raised $45 million in a Series G venture round on March 31, 2020, comprising $35 million in equity from investors including T.J. Rodgers, York Capital Management, a major new strategic investor (anchoring with $25 million), and existing investors ($10 million), plus $10 million in non-dilutive funding from customers for development and production capacity reservations. This funding supports production and commercialization, with a facility expected to deliver batteries in late 2020 and ramp to 8 million units annually in 2021-2022. Enovix had secured agreements with four leading portable electronics customers for silicon-anode batteries, anticipated to generate $250 million in annual revenue once fully ramped, following initial sampling that attracted interest about a year prior. Investors and customers gained confidence after site visits demonstrating proprietary electrode laser patterning and high-speed stacking tools. Shortly after, in 2020, Enovix added another $20 million in equity, bringing total 2020 funding to $55 million. A Harvard Business School case notes that by mid-2020, Enovix progressed but slower than forecasted, prompting a new raise with a term sheet from a public company that required additional investment from York Capital. The company later exited via a reverse merger on July 15, 2021, with Rodgers Silicon Valley Acquisition Corp., rebranding as Enovix Corporation.
