CK Infrastructure Holdings Overview

About CK Infrastructure Holdings

CK Infrastructure Holdings is a Hong Kong-based infrastructure investment and operating group, formerly known as Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings. It invests in businesses that provide essential infrastructure and related services across international markets. Its portfolio includes utilities and environmental infrastructure, with revenue and investment returns arising from the services delivered by its operating businesses. The group serves commercial, municipal and household markets through those businesses. In 2013, it led the consortium purchasing AVR Afvalverwerking in the Netherlands and acquired a 35% interest. That investment added waste-processing facilities with long-term gate-fee and energy-supply contracts. Its other environmental infrastructure interests at the time included Northumbrian Water in the United Kingdom and EnviroWaste in New Zealand. The company evaluates infrastructure investments for recurring cash flow and stable returns, while participating in the ownership and development of the underlying operating assets.

Description
Phoenix Energy is the largest of the three licensed natural gas distribution network operators in Northern Ireland, covering roughly 48 per cent of the population including Greater Belfast. Since inception it has laid about 4,000 km of gas pipeline and adds around 10,000 new connections a year, and it also supplies gas under the Phoenix Natural Gas brand. It employs about 160 people, earns regulated distribution revenue set by the Utility Regulator, and is developing biomethane and hydrogen initiatives.
AVR Afvalverwerking is a Dutch energy-from-waste operator with treatment facilities at Rozenburg in the Port of Rotterdam area and Duiven near the German border. The business processes residual waste and recovers energy and materials from it. Its revenue comes from waste-processing gate fees, sales of electricity, steam and district heating, and sales of recovered materials. Municipalities, commercial customers and neighbouring industrial users are served through contracts for waste treatment and energy supply. At its 2013 sale, the two main plants had combined annual processing capacity of approximately 1.7 million tonnes and the business employed about 430 people. Its operating portfolio also included biomass energy, liquid-waste treatment, paper-residue incineration, composting and transfer stations. The energy-from-waste operation was sold separately from the wider Van Gansewinkel collection and recycling group. A consortium led by Cheung Kong Infrastructure acquired it in 2013.
UK Power Networks is a London-headquartered electricity distribution network operator maintaining infrastructure to deliver power to millions of homes and businesses in London, the South East, and East of England, while integrating low-carbon technologies such as electric vehicles and solar panels.
