In July 2018, NTT DoCoMo invested in JapanTaxi and entered into a capital and business alliance agreement. This partnership enabled the integration of NTT DoCoMo's 'd Payment' service, which supports barcode payments on smartphones, into JapanTaxi's advertisement tablet devices compatible with QR code payments. The collaboration also aimed to develop new services combining NTT DoCoMo's 'KINMIRAI-NINZUYOSOKU (Near-future Predictions of Populations)' and other technologies.

Feb 2018Series BToyota (lead); Mirai Creation Fund$70MJapanTaxi, an Uber-like ride-hailing service owned by Ichiro Kawanabe who runs Japan's largest taxi operator Nihon Kotsu, received a 7.5 billion JPY ($69 million) investment from Toyota Motor in early 2018, following a prior $4.5 million investment from Toyota's Mirai Creation Fund. Toyota led the round, with funds aimed at developing the service, including connected terminals for taxis, joint vehicle-dispatch systems, and big-data collection. The app also offers fare calculators for offline taxis and ride booking for children. At the time, JapanTaxi claimed four million downloads and partnerships with 60,000 taxis, representing about one-quarter of Japan's taxi drivers. This positioned it strongly in Japan's $15 billion annual taxi industry, where Uber held less than one percent of Tokyo's market. The investment came amid rising competition, with Didi and SoftBank planning a rival service.
