Compare FMP API pricing and alternatives
Last verified: Aug 20, 2026Financial Modeling Prep (FMP) is a low-cost REST API for public company data.FMP scales by geography and feature set: entry pricing covers only US markets, higher tiers add the UK and Canada, and the top tier adds global coverage, transcripts and bulk delivery. This page covers FMP alternatives, including more established institutional providers like LSEG, Capital IQ, Multiples and FactSet.
What is the FMP API?
Financial Modeling Prep (FMP) is a web-based financial data platform and developer-friendly financial data API provider. It supplies structured fundamental statements, real-time market quotes, stock price histories, macro indicators, and analyst forecasts.
FMP uses a tiered subscription model starting with a free Basic tier (250 calls a day, end-of-day data). Paid individual plans, billed annually: Starter at $22 a month, Premium at $59 a month, and Ultimate at $149 a month.
Core features include REST APIs and websocket feeds covering over 30 years of historical data, stock screeners, financial ratios, SEC filings, and earnings transcripts.
Similarly to Intrinio, FMP is not an investment-grade financial data provider, but rather the most common starting point for a side project, due to simple integration and low entry price.
It lacks verified, equity research data (that providers like Capital IQ, Bloomberg or Multiples provide), and its consensus estimates coverage is limited.

Overview of FMP API alternatives
| Product | Overview | Pricing | Strengths | Limitations |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Massive | Massive API provides US market data across stocks, options, indices, FX, crypto and futures. Compared to FMP, Massive is the stronger choice for real-time prices and streaming, and the weaker one for fundamentals. Financials and daily ratios (trailing P/E, EV/EBITDA, ROE on roughly 4,400 tickers) are a $29 add-on. No consensus estimates. |

|
|
| Alpha Vantage | Choose Alpha Vantage API for broader asset coverage than FMP at a lower price. FMP goes a bit deeper on company fundamentals. Free for 25 calls a day, then priced by rate limit from $49.99 a month. Both FMP and AV are not truly institutional-grade sources, and neither carries consensus estimates or calculated multiples. |

|
| Intrinio | Intrinio API tends to be a slight upgrade from FMP. It offers 15+ years of US fundamentals, real-time equities and options data and tick-level history, with display and redistribution rights sold explicitly from the $333 a month Startup tier. Like FMP, Intrinio is US-focused and not really an investment-grade data provider. Consensus estimates data is very limited, and far worse quality compared to FactSet, LSEG, Capital IQ or Multiples. |

|
| Multiples | Investment-grade financial data API provider, with data licensed exclusively by FactSet and Morningstar. Tends to be more expensive than FMP, but provides institutional-quality and organized public comps data. Complete coverage (historical and consensus estimates data), plus private transactions data (M&A and VC). |

Should you choose Financial Modeling Prep or look for an alternative?
Financial Modeling Prep strengths
- Developer-friendly self-serve REST API with a usable free tier (250 calls/day) and cheap paid plans
- Fast, cost-effective way to prototype valuation and screening workflows
Financial Modeling Prep trade-offs
- Entry tiers cover US markets only. Global coverage requires purchasing top plan
- Limited consensus estimates, questionable coverage
- No M&A or venture data
- Not an investment-grade product. Choose Cap IQ, FactSet, Multiples, or LSEG if you require enterprise quality
Why look for alternatives to the FMP API
Budget-friendly is not the same as investment-grade
FMP serves as a cheap self-serve for basic stock data. It is not FactSet or Capital IQ - it does not deliver the data depth, quality control, or licensing rights that enterprise clients require.
Bandwidth caps + rate limits
Usage is measured against a trailing 30-day bandwidth allowance - 500MB on free, 20GB on the entry paid tier, up to 150GB higher up. Bulk pulls can hit that before they hit a request limit.
Questionable data quality
Users often report missing line items, delayed updates, values that do not match the filing etc. Because FMP does not license data from any established provider, it is fine for prototyping and hobby projects, but quite weak in commercial use cases.
No high-quality licensing
The data is not licensed from an institutional provider, which is the usual blocker when you need verified, institutional-grade data. For an affordable alternative (albeit more expensive than FMP), consider Multiples, which licenses its public company data from FactSet and Morningstar.
