| Mar 2019 | Series B | DAG Ventures (lead); Prudential (lead); Enterprise Community Investment; Bloomberg Beta; Andreessen Horowitz; Ribbit Capital; Inovia Capital; Restive | $22M | Point is a homeownership investment company that provides homeowners with debt-free access to their home equity by connecting them with investors who purchase a portion of the home's equity, typically 5-20% of the appraised value. Homeowners can sell back or repay the investment at any time, with Point sharing losses if the home depreciates. This positions Point as an alternative to home equity loans and cash-out refinances. Founded in 2015, the company had expanded to 13 states and Washington, D.C., by 2019 after securing a $150 million platform capital investment from Atalaya Capital Management in 2018. On March 20, 2019, Point announced $122 million in new financing, comprising a $22 million Series B equity round led by DAG Ventures and Prudential Financial, with participation from Andreessen Horowitz, Bloomberg Beta, Enterprise Community Partners, Inovia Capital, Restive, and Ribbit Capital, alongside $100 million in platform capital from Kingsbridge Wealth Management. The Series B investors, particularly Prudential and Enterprise Community Partners, were drawn to Point's solutions for affordable housing challenges and supporting first-time homebuyers in difficult markets. The new capital was earmarked for expansion into over 30 states by the end of 2020 and to fund more than 1,000 homeowners in the coming year. Point reported significant consumer demand for its equity investment solution, highlighting the emergence of aligned financial products for homeowners. CEO Eddie Lim noted growing interest from consumers seeking alternatives to traditional equity access methods. DAG Ventures, a repeat investor through founder Eddie Lim's prior company Trialpay (acquired by Visa in 2015), joined alongside other prominent firms with portfolios in fintech and community-focused ventures like Branch, Mint.com, Nextdoor, Oportun, WeWork, and Wealthfront. Prudential emphasized the investment as part of its commitment to consumer financial security amid debt burdens. |
