KUAYUE-EXPRESS Acquisition

KUAYUE-EXPRESS was acquired by JD Logistics for $680M on 13 August 2020.

Before the acquisition KUAYUE-EXPRESS had raised $2M across 2 funding rounds.

Kuayue Express is a Shenzhen-based Chinese logistics and express delivery company founded in 2007, specializing in limited-time and same-day/next-day delivery services. The company operates 50,000 employees, 13 chartered cargo planes, and 17,000 trucks, handling more than 300,000 orders daily across 500 cities in China, serving primarily corporate and B2B clients rather than consumers. In August 2020, JD Logistics acquired an initial controlling stake of approximately 63.57% in Kuayue Express for RMB 3 billion (USD 432 million) as part of JD.com's broader strategy to integrate and scale its end-to-end supply chain management capabilities. This acquisition allowed JD Logistics to enhance its limited-time express service offerings and advance its technology initiatives and third-party merchant expansion. The transaction reflected a significant valuation contraction from Kuayue's prior unicorn status of RMB 20 billion (USD 2.9 billion) in 2019, driven by the company's cash flow constraints. Subsequently, in December 2024, JD Logistics announced plans to acquire the remaining 36.43% equity stake for up to RMB 6.484 billion to achieve full ownership of Kuayue Express, consolidating complete control over the logistics platform.
