Feb 2022Undisclosed stageApollo Global Management (lead); HeroMotoCorp (lead)$267M$905MHero FinCorp, the non-banking financial company (NBFC) arm of Hero MotoCorp, India's largest two-wheeler manufacturer, raised Rs 2,000 crore ($267 million) in growth capital in February 2022. Apollo Global Management committed Rs 937 crore ($125 million) through its Hybrid Value Fund, Hero MotoCorp invested Rs 700 crore ($94 million), with the balance from other investors including existing shareholders like ChrysCapital, Credit Suisse, and Apis Partners. Hero MotoCorp owns 40% and the Munjal family promoters hold 30-35% pre-round. The investment supports expansion in retail, SME, and corporate lending, building on its origins financing Hero MotoCorp customers and a $3.7 billion loan book. The round, approved by boards in January 2022, implies an estimated post-money valuation of Rs 9,370 crore based on Apollo's approximate 10% stake post-funding, as stated in the company's February 2022 deck. Post-infusion, consolidated net worth reaches Rs 6,782 crore ($900 million), with AA+ ratings from ICRA and CRISIL. Apollo's involvement provides value-added capital for growth in India's NBFC sector amid favorable tailwinds, leveraging its global network. The deal closed subject to regulatory approvals by Q2 2022, advised by JM Financial, with Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co and J Sagar Associates as legal counsel.
May 2020Undisclosed stageApis Partners--Apis Growth Fund II completed a minority investment in Indian non-bank finance company Hero FinCorp, announced from London on 29 May 2020. Terms were not disclosed. Apis invested as part of a funding round that also included the company's existing investors and its promoters. Hero FinCorp was founded as the lending arm of Hero MotoCorp, India's leading two-wheeler manufacturer, which at the time had a market capitalisation of about US$5.5 billion, revenue of about US$5 billion and sold eight million motorcycles a year. Apis said it was attracted by Hero FinCorp's wide geographic footprint and by the growing role of non-bank lenders in the Indian financial system. The company had over 2.5 million active customers and lends across retail, SME and corporate segments, reaching under-banked borrowers in rural and semi-rural areas through Hero MotoCorp's distribution network across 27 states and roughly 1,700 cities, with around 70% of its retail loan customers new to credit.
Sep 2016Undisclosed stageChrysCapital (lead); Credit Suisse (lead)$105M$779MHero FinCorp, a Delhi-based non-banking financial company (NBFC) and part of the Hero Group, raised Rs 702 crore ($105 million) in equity from ChrysCapital and Credit Suisse in September 2016, with an additional Rs 300 crore from Hero Group promoters, totaling over Rs 1,000 crore. ChrysCapital invested Rs 570 crore for an 11% stake, while Credit Suisse invested Rs 132 crore for around 2.5%, valuing the company at approximately Rs 5,200 crore. The funds were intended to fuel expansion over the next 12-18 months, grow the loan portfolio, invest in technology, and enter sectors like affordable housing. At the time, Hero FinCorp had an asset size of Rs 8,000 crore as of the end of FY'16, up from Rs 300 crore in 2013, serving one million retail customers across 950 locations, with one-fourth of business from financing Hero MotoCorp two-wheeler purchases and the rest from loans against property, home loans, and SME lending. The company leveraged Hero MotoCorp's network for reach, particularly in rural hinterlands, and aimed to double touchpoints to 4,000 by 2020 while targeting an asset size of Rs 35,000 crore. This round followed earlier interest from PE firms like Multiples PE and others for a 10% stake at Rs 8,000 crore valuation, though the deal closed lower. Hero FinCorp, originally Hero Honda Finlease since 1991 and rebranded in 2011 post-Honda split, positioned itself as a full-service financial provider in India's underpenetrated NBFC market.
