Aston Martin F1 Team Overview

About Aston Martin F1 Team

Aston Martin F1 Team is a British Formula One constructor based at Silverstone, Northamptonshire, that races as the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team. It is owned and operated by AMR GP Limited, a company set up on 2 August 2018 as Racing Point UK Limited by an investment consortium led by Lawrence Stroll to take over the Force India team from administration; the Silverstone operation traces its origins to Jordan Grand Prix, founded in 1991. After Stroll took a 16.7% stake in carmaker Aston Martin in January 2020, the Racing Point F1 Team was rebranded as Aston Martin for the 2021 season. The team competes with title partner Aramco, and its drivers since 2023 have been two-time world champion Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll. It switched from Mercedes customer engines to a Honda works partnership in 2026, with Adrian Newey as team principal and managing technical partner and Lawrence Stroll as chairman. The team had about 800 employees by 2023, when private equity firm Arctos Partners acquired a minority stake at a valuation of about £1 billion. Aston Martin had first entered Formula One in 1959 and 1960 with its own DBR4 and DBR5 cars.

Aston Martin F1 Team funding rounds
DateStageInvestorsValuationDeal Summary
Aug 2026SecondaryRobert Wood Johnson (lead)-Robert Wood Johnson acquired a strategic minority stake in Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team in August 2026 and joined the board as vice chairman with immediate effect. The team said the investment is aimed at supporting commercial growth, particularly in the United States, while Lawrence Stroll remains executive chairman and controlling shareholder, with day-to-day management unchanged. Aston Martin described Johnson as a strategic investor bringing sports ownership experience from the New York Jets and Crystal Palace, and the transaction adds another high-profile backer to the team’s ownership base. The team did not disclose the stake size, purchase price, or seller. Aston Martin Aramco is the Silverstone-based Formula 1 team competing under the Aston Martin brand, and at the time of the announcement it was focused on strengthening its commercial position and U.S. profile while also dealing with a difficult 2026 competitive season.
Nov 2023SecondaryArctos Partners (lead)$1.3BArctos Partners acquired a minority shareholding in AMR Holdings GP Limited, the holding company of the Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One team, in a deal announced in November 2023 on the eve of the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix. Exact terms were not disclosed; the Financial Times reported that the investment valued the team at about £1 billion, and Bloomberg put the figure at about $1.24 billion. The transaction was expected to close by the end of 2023. It was Arctos' first investment in Formula One. Team owner Lawrence Stroll said Arctos would bring deep sports industry knowledge and operational and strategic experience as the team invested in infrastructure, people and processes, and that Arctos shared the team's vision for its ultra-luxury brand. Stroll led the consortium that bought the former Force India team in 2018, and it was rebranded as Aston Martin in 2021. The team had eight podium finishes and its best points total in the 2023 season, and it was building a new factory and wind tunnel at Silverstone. Earlier in 2023 Alpine had sold 24% of its Formula One team to a consortium including Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney at a valuation of about £725 million.
