May 2025Undisclosed stageAPG Asset Management (lead); Macquarie Asset Management$340MSkyNRG is a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) producer and platform developer based in Amsterdam that works across the entire SAF value chain. The company partners with major industry players including KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Microsoft, and Boeing to accelerate SAF adoption globally. SkyNRG's platform encompasses capacity development projects, research and development activities, advisory services, and commercial customer programs aimed at scaling SAF production and market adoption. On May 30, 2025, SkyNRG announced a new funding round totaling up to €300 million (USD $340 million). The round comprised up to €250 million from APG, on behalf of Dutch pension fund ABP, and approximately €50 million from returning investor Macquarie Asset Management (MAM). This capital injection follows MAM's €175 million investment in 2023, which has now been increased to approximately €225 million as part of this transaction. The funding will support SkyNRG's plans to develop and construct dedicated SAF production facilities in the Netherlands, Sweden, and the United States. The company has achieved significant recognition in the energy transition space. SkyNRG's SAF reduces lifecycle emissions by over 80% compared to conventional fossil jet fuel, aligning with net-zero 2050 decarbonization targets. APG's investment marks its first entry into the SAF sector and signals institutional confidence in dedicated SAF production infrastructure as a viable pathway for decarbonizing aviation. The long-term commitments from both APG and MAM underline confidence in SkyNRG's business model and market positioning as a frontrunner in sustainable aviation fuel development.
Nov 2023Undisclosed stageMacquarie Asset Management (lead)$191MSkyNRG is a leading sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) platform that sources, blends, distributes, and is developing production facilities for SAF in Europe and the US to support the aviation industry's decarbonization efforts. On November 16, 2023, Macquarie Asset Management announced an initial investment of up to €175 million (approximately USD$190 million) in SkyNRG through its Macquarie GIG Energy Transition Solutions (MGETS) Fund, led by the specialist Green Investments team. This marks Macquarie's first investment in SAF and aims to fund SkyNRG's growth to become a major SAF producer by 2030, with dedicated facilities built in cooperation with strategic offtake partners. SkyNRG has secured long-term SAF purchase commitments from partners including KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Boeing, totaling up to €4 billion. The investment follows Macquarie's strategy in emerging green technologies and is subject to closing conditions. Current shareholders post-investment include Macquarie Asset Management, KLM, Spring Associates, Finestra S.A., E.M.E., and management. SkyNRG's operations are certified by RSB and CORSIA standards. CEO Philippe Lacamp emphasized the need for SAF production capacity to meet aviation's net-zero goals, while Mark Dooley, Global Head of MAM Green Investments, highlighted SkyNRG's pioneering role and commercial focus. The transaction was advised by Clifford Chance and aligns with Macquarie's net-zero by 2040 target, managing approximately €543 billion in assets globally.
