BTCBOX was acquired by RedotPay for an undisclosed price on 24 October 2026.

RedotPay, a Hong Kong-based digital asset payments company, acquired BTCBOX, a Japanese crypto asset exchange, in a transaction BTCBOX confirmed on 24 October 2026. Price, valuation and ownership terms were not disclosed. RedotPay said it would offer services compliant with Japanese regulations through BTCBOX, because RedotPay itself does not hold a Japanese crypto asset exchange licence. As part of the move it removed its app from Japanese app stores and plans to wind down its local Japanese business in stages. BTCBOX was founded in 2014 and registered as a crypto asset exchange operator with Japanese authorities in September 2017. The exchange suspended services after a customer data leak in January 2026 and resumed operations in stages from 3 August 2026. The transaction gives RedotPay a licensed route into the Japanese market.
