In January 2023, TMX Group, owner of the Toronto Stock Exchange, made a strategic investment acquiring approximately 21% of VettaFi's common equity for US$175 million (CAD$234 million), closing on January 9, 2023. The deal built on TMX's focus on expanding services for ETF issuers amid trends in passive investing and custom indices, leveraging its dominant position with over 900 ETFs listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange representing 99% of Canadian AUM. Later in December 2023, TMX announced acquisition of the remaining ~78% of VettaFi's common units for US$848 million, bringing total consideration to US$1.03 billion for full ownership and implying a total valuation net of expected USD170 million tax benefit at 15.4x 2024E adjusted EBITDA.
