Silo.AI Acquisition
Silo.AI was acquired by AMD for $665M on 10 July 2024.
The acquisition price implies a 28.9x revenue multiple on $23M of revenue.
Before the acquisition Silo.AI had raised $11M across 2 funding rounds.
AMD acquired Silo AI, Europe's largest private AI lab based in Helsinki, Finland, in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately $665 million. The deal closed in August 2024. Silo AI is a 300-person team of AI scientists and engineers specializing in end-to-end AI-driven solutions for enterprise customers including Allianz, Philips, Rolls-Royce, and Unilever, with demonstrated expertise in developing state-of-the-art large language models like Poro and Viking trained on AMD platforms and spanning cloud, embedded, and endpoint computing markets. AMD's acquisition of Silo AI represents a strategic move to build a comprehensive AI stack to compete with Nvidia's dominance in AI infrastructure and software. The deal is part of AMD's broader AI strategy that included over $125 million in investments across a dozen AI companies and prior acquisitions of Mipsology and Nod.ai. Silo AI CEO and co-founder Peter Sarlin continued leading the team as part of AMD's Artificial Intelligence Group under senior vice president Vamsi Boppana, with the company maintaining its headquarters in Finland and European operations to preserve its role as an anchor for the European AI ecosystem. The acquisition reflects AMD's competitive positioning against entrenched players like Nvidia and emerging hyperscalers including Google, Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon in the AI chip-to-platform market. By acquiring Silo AI's talent, proven customer relationships, and demonstrated capability to develop and deploy production-scale AI models on AMD hardware, AMD gained both technical capabilities for software optimization and commercial validation of its Instinct accelerators in real-world enterprise AI applications.
