Oct 2024Strategic investmentSanofi (lead)$327M$2.2BOrano Med, a subsidiary of Orano Group specializing in radioligand therapies using lead-212 alpha-emitting isotopes, partnered with Sanofi on October 17, 2024, to create a new entity under the Orano Med brand focused on discovery, design, and clinical development of next-generation radioligand therapies for rare cancers and difficult-to-treat solid tumors and hematological malignancies. Sanofi invested €300 million for approximately 16% equity stake in this new entity, valued at €1.9 billion. This builds on a prior September 2024 licensing deal where Sanofi paid €100 million upfront for global commercialization rights to AlphaMedix, a late-stage somatostatin receptor-targeted alpha therapy for neuroendocrine tumors, with up to €220 million in milestones and royalties; Orano Med handles manufacturing via its global industrial platform. The investment strengthens Orano Med's pipeline acceleration, leveraging its unique lead-212 production capabilities from vast raw material stocks and patented processes for reliable, scalable supply. AlphaMedix recently met primary endpoints in the Phase II ALPHAMEDIX-02 trial for gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, showing objective response rates per RECIST criteria, with full data slated for 2025 ESMO Congress. Sanofi aims to advance this in clinic as part of the partnership. The deal aligns with France 2030 innovation plans and Paris Saclay Cancer Cluster efforts, pending regulatory approvals. Orano Med's platform targets unmet needs in oncology, including multiple myeloma, acute myeloid leukemia, lymphomas, gastrointestinal, and lung cancers.
