Opera Solutions Overview

About Opera Solutions

Opera Solutions was a US big-data and machine-learning analytics company based in New Jersey. Founded in 2004 by chief executive Arnab Gupta, it applied machine intelligence to clients' large data flows to extract predictive signals and patterns, and delivered the results as hosted analytics solutions that guided front-line business decisions. Its clients were companies in financial services, healthcare and other sectors, as well as government bodies, which paid it for analytics software and related consulting work. By 2011 it had about 600 employees and offices in North America, Europe and Asia, and that September it raised $84 million in its first outside equity round, led by Silver Lake Sumeru with Accel-KKR, Invus Financial Advisors, JGE Capital Management and Tola Capital, in a deal the Wall Street Journal reported valued the company at about half a billion dollars. The business later failed after consuming more than $250 million of private equity and debt capital. A group led by Edward Scott, a former senior executive of White Oak Global Advisors, foreclosed on the assets of Opera Solutions LLC, took over its contracts and rebuilt the business as ElectrifAi, which sells pre-built machine learning software products.

Oct 2014Series GWipro (lead)$8M-Opera Solutions is a New Jersey-headquartered provider of big data predictive and prescriptive analytics solutions, founded in 2004. The company leverages advanced technology, machine learning science, large-scale data management, and human expertise to deliver analytics solutions across financial services, healthcare, government, supply chain, marketing, and other sectors. It employs approximately 200 machine learning scientists among its 700 employees and maintains offices in North America, Europe, and Asia. Wipro invested an additional $8.2 million in Opera Solutions via a Series G preferred unit purchase agreement in October 2014, following a prior $30 million minority stake investment in May 2013. This funding builds on Opera's earlier $84 million external round in 2011 led by Silver Lake Sumeru with participation from Accel-KKR, Invus Financial Advisors, JGE Capital Management, and Tola Capital. Post-investment, Wipro classified the stake as 'available for sale.' The partnership enables Wipro to combine Opera's machine learning expertise and predictive signals with its own domain and technology capabilities to develop industry-specific big data analytics solutions. Opera's offerings include cloud-based Signal Hub for extracting predictive patterns from big data, Global Markets Signal Hub for market direction and portfolio management, and Vektor for ingesting and analyzing big data flows, integrating with platforms like HPCC Systems, Hadoop, SAP HANA, and Oracle's big data appliances.
May 2013Undisclosed stageWipro$30M$462MOpera Solutions, founded in 2004 by Arnab Gupta and headquartered in New Jersey, is a global big data and predictive analytics company specializing in machine learning, pre-discovered predictive signals, and algorithms. It serves sectors including financial services, healthcare, government, supply chain, and marketing, with offices across North America, Europe, and Asia, employing around 700 staff including 230 machine learning scientists. In May 2013, Wipro acquired a 6.5% minority stake in Opera Solutions for $30 million as part of a strategic partnership to combine Opera's analytics expertise with Wipro's domain knowledge and global delivery for industry-specific big data solutions. The investment valued the company at approximately $462 million post-money, based on the stake percentage. This followed Opera's $84 million funding round in 2011 from investors like Silver Lake Sumeru, Accel-KKR, and others. At the time of the Wipro deal, Opera Solutions reported revenues of about $100 million. The partnership aimed to enhance big data analytics adoption and ROI for customers. Wipro later raised its stake in 2014.
Sep 2011Undisclosed stageSilver Lake (lead); Accel-KKR; Invus; Tola Capital$84M$500MOpera Solutions, a New York-based Big Data predictive analytics company, announced on 14 September 2011 that it had raised USD 84 million in its first round of outside equity funding, a minority investment led by Silver Lake Sumeru, the middle-market fund of Silver Lake. Accel-KKR, Invus Financial Advisors, JGE Capital Management and Tola Capital also participated. The equity financing was described as one of the largest ever for a private company in the predictive analytics space, and press reports said it valued Opera Solutions at about half a billion dollars. Founder and chief executive Arnab Gupta explained in the announcement why investors had backed the company. Opera Solutions, founded in 2004, combined data science teams with its own machine-learning technology to deliver analytics-as-a-service to large enterprises in financial services, procurement, credit and fraud management, government, healthcare and marketing, earning subscription and service fees tied to the value its models produced for clients. The company later received a minority investment from Wipro in 2013. Silver Lake records Opera Solutions as a partnership from 2011 until the investment was realised in 2018.
