Aug 2026Undisclosed stageKKR (lead)$1.1B$2.1BTotalEnergies signed an agreement with an insurance account managed by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. to sell a 50% stake in an already largely developed 1.2 GW onshore solar and wind portfolio in Europe, valuing the assets at EUR 1.8 billion. TotalEnergies will retain the other 50% stake and continue to operate the portfolio after closing, which is expected in 2026 and is subject to customary conditions. The portfolio spans Germany, Spain, France, and Poland, and the electricity produced is already sold to third parties or will be marketed by TotalEnergies. The transaction fits TotalEnergies’ renewables business model of recycling capital while keeping operating control and maintaining exposure to operating renewable assets. KKR said the investment reflects its view of the long-term fundamentals of Europe’s renewable energy sector and infrastructure’s role in the energy transition. TotalEnergies is an integrated energy company that has used partial asset sales to monetize developed renewables portfolios while preserving operating involvement. In the same period, the company also announced the acquisition of Shell’s European onshore renewables business, covering 500 MW of operating or under-construction solar and wind assets and a 3.5 GW development pipeline across Italy, the UK, and Spain.
