Jan 2017Undisclosed stageBlackRock (lead)$108M$805MLinkem is Italy's leading provider of fixed wireless broadband services using LTE technology and 3.5 GHz spectrum, offering ultrabroadband internet at lower cost and faster deployment than fiber. Headquartered in Rome with offices in Florence and Milan, plus call centers in Bari and Taranto, it employed over 700 people at the time. In January 2017, Linkem announced a €100 million equity capital increase, with €50 million from BlackRock-managed funds and €50 million from existing investors including Leucadia National Corporation and Cowen Group. The company was valued at about €700 million, bringing total equity capital invested to over €500 million. At the time of the round, Linkem had over 400,000 subscribers, more than 2,000 cell sites covering over 60% of the Italian population, and services in 18 of the 20 top metropolitan areas including Rome, Florence, Palermo, Bari, Turin, and Naples. The funding aimed to accelerate network expansion to cover 80% of Italian households and serve millions of subscribers. A Jefferies report later referenced a post-money valuation of €800 million related to the January 2017 round, though contemporary sources cite €700 million. This investment represented one of the largest recent foreign direct investments in Italy, validating Linkem's model of simple, affordable high-speed internet access nationwide. CEO Davide Rota highlighted the equity as sufficient for near-term goals.
