CLS Groupe Acquisition

CLS Groupe was acquired by MDA Space for $932M on 7 July 2026.

The acquisition price implies a 3.6x revenue multiple on $257M of revenue.

Before the acquisition CLS Groupe had raised $41M across 1 funding round.

MDA Space entered into a firm and irrevocable offer on July 8, 2026, to acquire an approximately 70% interest in CLS (Collecte Localisation Satellites) from the shareholders of CLS's parent company, for approximately EUR 567 million (C$920 million) in cash, subject to adjustments. The French space agency CNES will retain the remaining 30% stake. CLS, headquartered in Toulouse, is a global provider of AI-driven Earth-observation data analytics and satellite IoT solutions serving more than 14,000 customers in about 150 countries, and generated close to EUR 223 million in revenue in 2025. MDA Space says the deal will vertically integrate it in Earth-observation analytics and expects it to roughly double MDA's recurring revenue stream and be accretive to adjusted EBITDA and adjusted EPS within the first year. MDA Space raised approximately US$819 million through a share offering, part of which will fund the acquisition and may be used to help refinance CLS's existing debt. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2026 or in early 2027, subject to employee-consultation procedures and customary conditions.

DateStageInvestorsRaisedDeal Summary
Nov 2013Undisclosed stageArdian (lead)$41MCLS Group is a global provider of location services, environmental data collection, monitoring, and ocean observation. The company operates across six strategic business segments: sustainable fisheries management, environmental surveillance, maritime security, fleet management, energy and mining, and space and soil segments. As of 2013, CLS employed approximately 650 people and maintained a customer base spanning both private and public sectors. In November 2013, Ardian (formerly AXA Private Equity) invested €29.5 to 30 million for a 32% minority stake in CLS Group, marking the first time the French National Center for Space Studies (CNES), which had been the majority shareholder, allowed a private investor to enter the company. The investment was structured as a non-standard public-private partnership agreement in which Ardian contributed financial expertise and international coverage while CNES provided technological capabilities. Management projected CLS would achieve revenue of more than €90 million in 2013, with plans to accelerate geographic expansion and pursue acquisitions, particularly in North America. The partnership aimed to support CLS's ambitious development strategy and secure larger contracts across its business units: localization and data collection, space oceanography, radar applications, and telematics.
