About Transgrid
Transgrid is the owner and operator of the high voltage electricity transmission network across New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. Its infrastructure spans over 13,000 circuit kilometres of lines and 110 substations, connecting more than 100 generators to distribution networks and large industrial customers. Sydney-headquartered Transgrid integrates this network into Australia's National Electricity Market, enabling electricity trading with Victoria, Queensland, and South Australia. Established in 1994 following New South Wales electricity privatisation, the company invests in projects like the EnergyConnect interconnector to New South Wales-South Australia and the Central-West Oran Park line to support renewable energy integration.

Transgrid funding rounds
| Date | Stage | Investors | Raised | Deal Summary |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| May 2025 | Secondary | Future Fund | - | The Future Fund Board of Guardians acquired a 9.995% interest in Transgrid, the monopoly high-voltage electricity transmission business serving New South Wales and the ACT, from Canadian pension investor OMERS. OMERS retained a matching 9.995% holding and will manage the Future Fund's interest on its behalf, keeping its board and governance role in the asset. The transaction closed on announcement and the parties did not disclose financial terms. |
| Apr 2025 | Secondary | GIC | - | Morrison & Co, acting for the Utilities Trust of Australia, agreed to sell a roughly 10 per cent stake in New South Wales electricity transmission group Transgrid to Singapore's sovereign wealth fund GIC, leaving UTA with about 10.5 per cent. The sale formed part of a wider reshuffle of Transgrid's ownership, in which the Future Fund separately bought a 9.995 per cent holding from OMERS, as owners responded to the capital demands of the energy transition. The transaction was reported at more than A$1 billion and completed in August 2025. |
