Sep 2021Undisclosed stageKR1$7M-KR1 invested USD 350,000 in Minterest as part of a USD 6.5 million private fundraising round that the decentralised lending protocol disclosed on 16 September 2021. The round was backed by KR1, DFG, CMS Holdings, DigiStrats, FOMOcraft, Bitscale Capital, PNYX Ventures, CMT Digital and Faculty Capital, and KR1 received an undetermined allocation of MNT tokens in exchange for its contribution. Minterest operates token money markets for lending and borrowing digital assets, and its distinguishing feature is that the protocol carries out liquidations itself instead of paying third-party liquidators, then uses the operating surplus to buy MNT on the open market and pass it back to depositors, borrowers and stakers. The team said the design is intended to capture value for participants that competing money markets leak to external actors, and that the proceeds would fund the build-out and launch of the protocol. Minterest is run from Tallinn, Estonia by a team led by founder Josh Rogers, working with cryptographers and blockchain engineers. KR1 described the investment as an addition to its decentralised finance holdings alongside earlier positions in Nexus Mutual and Tidal Finance.
