Dec 2025Undisclosed stageKfW (lead)$176M$1.3BKfW Capital, the venture capital arm of KfW, has been active in the German VC market since 2018, investing over EUR 1.9 billion in more than 100 VC funds supported by the ERP Special Fund, Future Fund, and KfW resources, making it one of Europe's largest VC fund investors. In early 2025, KfW Capital planned direct co-investments in exceptional German tech startups alongside its portfolio VC funds, focusing on key innovation and transformation areas. KfW reported strong promotional financing in 2025, with new commitments rising significantly: EUR 39.4 billion in H1 2025 (up from EUR 34.7 billion in H1 2024), including doubled SME support for climate, environment, and innovation at EUR 6.9 billion, and EUR 146 million in KfW Capital commitments (down from EUR 679 million in H1 2024 due to a one-off EUR 500 million to HTGF Opportunity Fund in prior year). By Q3 2025, total commitments reached EUR 61.4 billion, up 14% year-over-year, with domestic promotion at EUR 40.9 billion and SME climate/innovation financing more than doubling to EUR 11.1 billion. KfW planned EUR 65-70 billion in funding for 2025, lower than prior expectations. The German VC market showed recovery in 2024-2025, with investment volumes approaching pre-pandemic levels; AI and cybersecurity led growth expectations for 2025, while health tech and space tech (EUR 240 million in 2024) gained traction.
