Mar 2024Undisclosed stageEstancia Capital Partners (lead)$136MFlagstone is a UK-based cash deposit and savings platform founded in 2015 that enables consumers and businesses to shop for higher savings rates by spreading capital across multiple fintechs, banks, and advisers. The company positions itself as the UK's leading cash deposit platform, serving over 600,000 customers with total assets under administration of more than £11 billion as of March 2024. Flagstone achieved EBITDA profitability in the fourth quarter of 2022 and reported its fifth consecutive quarter of profitable growth at the time of the funding announcement. On 11 March 2024, Flagstone announced a £108 million (approximately $138 million USD) equity investment from Estancia Capital Partners, a US private equity firm specializing in financial services and cash management. The deal combined primary and secondary investments, with the primary capital used to consolidate Flagstone's market position, build brand awareness, expand partnerships, and enhance competitive savings products, while secondary investments rewarded early backers. Under the transaction terms, Estancia took a minority stake in the business, with Estancia managing directors Takashi Moriuchi and Keegan Mitchell joining the board and Darrin Jeffries serving as board observer. The transaction was expected to close in Q2 2024 subject to regulatory approvals. Though Estancia confirmed the valuation had increased compared to the previous funding round, the specific post-money valuation was not publicly disclosed. Flagstone had previously raised approximately $45 million from venture capital firms and a family office, with investors including Volition Ventures, Kindred Capital, OMERS Ventures, Alexander Square Partners, and Vanneck.
Jan 2022Undisclosed stageWealth Club-Wealth Club members invested GBP 2.5 million of equity in Flagstone during 2022 under the Enterprise Investment Scheme, in one of the platform's single-company deals. Wealth Club has confirmed the investment on both its exits and track record page and in its commentary on the Sunday Times 100, stating that its investors backed Flagstone in 2022 and were then given an early opportunity to take money off the table in 2024 when the company received a GBP 108 million investment from a US private equity firm. That partial realisation was struck at 1.87 times the entry share price. Flagstone operates the largest UK cash deposit platform measured by the number of banks and savings accounts on its panel, allowing individuals, businesses and charities to open and manage multiple deposit accounts through one portal. Co-founded in 2015 by Andrew Thatcher and Simon Merchant, the company distributes directly and through wealth managers and brand partners including St James's Place, Saga and Revolut. It recorded its first profitable quarter in December 2022 and administered more than GBP 11 billion for over 600,000 customers by early 2024. The size of the wider 2022 round and the valuation at which Wealth Club subscribed were not disclosed.
